Texas Home Visiting Programs

Parenting can be hard, but there are people who can lend a hand. With home visiting, those people come to you. Home visitors make it easy by meeting you where you live, and it’s free! You may need a hand getting ready for a new baby in your life. You may want to learn how to teach your child numbers and shapes or get ready for school. Or you may just want to talk to someone about being a parent. The best thing about home visits is knowing you’re not alone.

Home visits happen at a time that is good for you and your family. A specially trained home visitor will come to you to provide support and information on being a great parent. Visits can happen as often as every week of as little as once a month. Home visits are for parents expecting a child or with children ages 5 or under. More details can be found below.  Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY)

For parents with children ages 3 to 5

This program is a 30 week highly structured school readiness program that empowers parents in promoting their child’s cognitive and social development. Home Instructors work with parents in their home 45 minutes to one hour a week on activities that build literacy, language, math, science, and motor skills which are necessary for success in the early school years and beyond. The parent then works with their child 15-20 minutes a day on that week’s activities. Enrollment for current year ends in December. No income requirements.

 Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP)

When you enroll, a specially trained nurse will visit you during your pregnancy and until your baby turns 2 years old. Your nurse home visitor will support you so that you can be the best mom for your baby. Year-round enrollment.  Must be WIC or Medicaid eligible.
